WHAT: “Oral Foibles – John Dooley”
WHAT? A collection of spoken-word poetry and humorous prose accompanied by music
I’m sorry, WHAT?
Hi it’s me, John!
I’m pitching my new audio collection, called Oral Foibles. It’s a 10-track album available on iTunes, Amazon, Billboard Music, and a bunch of other places. Amazon, though, is the only place to get a CD, until I start doing summer shows where I’ll be shilling a fancy-pants box set with CD, illustrated chapbooks, and whatever else I can stuff in there.
Oral Foibles (who doesn’t like a little Oral?) is my first solo album, after recording six full albums as half of the duo, Hydropods. I’m not always the best person to babble ad nauseam about my quirky exploits. That’s why I carry around this handy quote to give people a better idea of what the hell Oral Foibles is.
"John Dooley somehow makes me simultaneously love and despair for humanity. In “Oral Foibles,” John’s first solo album, he reveals himself to be a cross between Salvador Dali and Charles Bukowski, but with a sharper-edged sense of humor than either. These tracks break-dance their way across our pop culture landscape and psychoses without a moment of mercy. Through John’s lens, human existence is just so freakishly absurd that laughing at it and enjoying the ride is probably our only valid option. He’s a joy and a wonder, and one of the most insightful performance artists working today. Listen and love. Listen and despair."
